Guidelines

The Food Link Van delivers locally produced foods to businesses in the Skye & Lochalsh area (hotels, restaurants, shops etc).

If you, as a food producer in Skye & Lochalsh, have had enquiries from potential customers that you have been unable to fulfil, or if you would like to sell to localities in Skye & Lochalsh that have so far been outwith your delivery area, then use your local food link van to open up new opportunities.

The van runs twice weekly, Tuesdays and Fridays, from Easter to the end of October. If demand is sufficient, we will consider expanding existing routes or developing new ones.

Route

Drumfearn-Carbost-Colbost-Stein(only Fridays)-Portree-Staffin(only Tuesdays)-Broadford-Kyle-Plockton-Sleat. See route map.

How to use the van

  1. Contact the van Driver to ensure that a route can be arranged that suits you and the van.
  2. Make arrangements with your customers.
  3. Let the van driver know your delivery requirements the day before the delivery day.
  4. Ensure all food is suitably packed for carriage i.e. shellfish in waterproof containers and ice packs used where appropriate.
  5. Have goods ready and clearly labelled, for collection at the arranged time.
  6. Send out your own invoices to your customers.
  7. The cost to the producer is a 10% levy [plus VAT] on the total cost of all produce delivered by the van.
  8. The van is a non-profit making enterprise, so its success depends upon producers paying their levy by the 5th of the following month (e.g. pay July’s delivery levy by 5th August).
  9. Our preferred method of payment is by bank transfer. Please make levy cheques payable to Food Link Skye & Lochalsh Ltd and send them to:

Remember to enclose a list of what went where & when and add VAT to the total.
