The Skye & Lochalsh Food Link provides a vital link between local producers and hospitality providers, retailers and domestic customers.
The aim of the service is to play a pivotal role in the development of a healthy food economy on the island for the future with the emphasis on fresh, local and minimal environmental impact.
The award-winning Food Link Van provides a distribution service between Skye and Lochalsh producers and their customers. By using one vehicle to distribute fresh produce around the area, Food Link aims to support a growing number of diverse producers and consumers by:
Moreover, businesses in the local food industry gain access to top-quality produce that has been grown, harvested and produced in Skye and Lochalsh and making a positive difference towards a healthy local food economy in the area.
During Covid-19 restrictions, Food Link expanded its operations to serve domestic customers by setting-up a number of hubs around Skye & Lochalsh to act as collection points for local consumers who order and pay for their food directly from the producer in advance.
Producers do not sell directly to customers through any hubs that already stock their products.
