Eat local, taste the difference!

A feast for the eyes across a dramatic landscape; music to your ears with the sound of the sea. Let your taste buds enjoy their own experience of a lifetime, with a taste of Skye and Lochalsh.

Locally grown fruit, salds, oatcakes, shortbread, vegetables, herbs, meat, seafood, confectionery, prerves, cheese, ice cream; a range that is growing all the time.

Local produce with its quality, freshness and low 'food miles' is much sought after by the finest restaurants and hotels, and increasingly bought up by local families, as seen by the morning rush at the weekly producer markets which often sell out early!

As you travel around, you will find some excellent restaurants in unexpected places; The Three Chimneys restaurant at Colbost is one example; the Stein Inn at Waternish another, while the tiny Pasta Shed at Armadale awaits those who arrive by ferry from Mallaig.

Look out for 'Taste of Local Food Award' wall plaques and the quarterly Food Link News which you will find in shops, tourist information points, medical centres and schools. Look out too for the Food Link Van, as it delivers fresh local food from the area's artisan producers direct to the tables and shelves.

Skye and Lochalsh Food Link also run, and get involved, in various 'food' events where you can meet the producers, find out about local produce, sample it and buy.

In 2006 these events included the Cuillin Hills Trade Show, local agricultural shows and the 'Great Taste of Skye & Lochalsh'. We also ran  'The Incredible Edibles' and a very successful Christmas Food & Craft Market.

Keep updated for events in 2008.
