Fresh local produce is something that we have in abundance; the natural harvests of Skye and Lochalsh are quite simply some of the finest in the world, and we are justly proud of its provenance.
The renaissance of interest in good food has led many of us to ‘get back in touch with nature’ and to seek out food that is fresh and local, food that is sourced from responsible producers, food that has an identity.
The crofting community has, for generations, made a modest living from the land and sea while respecting the natural resources of this wild and beautiful environment. We hope to live up to its valuable legacy.
These strong traditions are reflected in the excellent quality and diversity of fish and shellfish on the menu or in local shops; there are prawns, lobster, crab, crayfish, periwinkles, oysters, mussels, scallops, razor fish, salmon, trout and a variety of white fish.
Locally reared meat is of the highest quality and there’s plenty of choice; with beef, lamb, venison, poultry, ham, bacon and a variety of hand made sausages available you can experience the traditional and the inspirational at home or when eating out.
Skye’s excellent meat and seafood larder is complemented by a myriad of fresh fruits and vegetables, salad leaves and herbs, cheese from ‘over the water’ at Achmore, ice-cream, tablet, chocolate, water, real ales and of course uisge beatha – the water of life - whisky.
